Open Quiet Days are generally run on Saturdays (full day) and Mondays (half-day) throughout the year. The cost is £6.00 (full day) or £3.00 (half-day). Please check the online calendar on the right of this page for dates of all public quiet days.

Saturday Quiet Days

Please check the online calendar on the right of this page for dates of Saturday quiet days. Please bring your own sandwiches; soup and hot drinks provided. A typical Saturday timetable:

10.00 am Arrival and Coffee
10.30 am First Address, followed by time for reflection
12.00 Noon Midday Worship or Prayers
12.30 pm Lunch
1.30 pm Second Address, followed by time for reflection
3.15 pm (ish) Closing Worship
3.45 pm / 4.00 pm Tea and Depart

 Monday Quiet Afternoons

Services Open to the Public

Mass

7.45 am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & alternate Saturdays
8.00 am Sunday
9.30 am Wednesday  & alternate Saturdays

The book we use for Mass is the same as Portsmouth Anglican Cathedral, which changes with the season and readings are from various sources.

 Daily Office

9.15 am (10.15 am Sundays) Terce
12.00 Noon Midday Office
5.00 pm Vespers

We use our own Office book with traditional chant/music, and various hymns. It varies according to Seasons, Saints days, festivals and other events.

Spiritual Direction

A number of Sisters are qualified Spiritual Directors and would be very happy to guide you on your spiritual pilgrimage.

Bethany Group

An informal discussion group, generally meeting on the 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month. Commences 7.30pm and ends with Compline at 8.30pm. Please check the online calendar on the right of this page.

Julian Meetings

The Julian Meetings Logo

The Julian Meetings foster the teaching and practice of contemplative prayer in the Christian tradition as well as encouraging people to practice contemplative prayer in their daily lives, exploring ways of doing this which are appropriate for them.

Julian Meetings are generally held at The House of Bethany on the:

  • 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month (10.00 to 11.15 am)
  • 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month (2.00 to 2.45 pm)
