I am the Resurrection and the Life
RITE OF DEDICATION OF A WINDOW

President We praise you, Lord God, Father all-holy
You sent your Son into our world
to gather, by the shedding of his blood,
those whom the destructive power of sin had scattered.
You sent him to unite us and to draw us by sacrament
and sign into the wonder of your divine life.
Bless Tracey Sheppard, who has designed
and made this window.
May all who look upon her work
recognize the powerful sign of the Cross.
Lead us to reflect that the Cross is the seed
of the glory of our salvation,
the promise of resurrection life in Christ.
Draw near, we pray, to all your servants
as they recognize in this place
the sign of their faith and devotion;
Grant that we may be transformed
into the likeness of Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God for ever and ever.

EXPLANATION OF WINDOW ENGRAVING

Designed, and Engraved by Tracey Sheppard
Installation date: Wednesday 11 May 2005

The empty cross, indicative of the Risen Christ.
The thistles, a symbol of the Passion of Christ, but also I

believe an appropriate image for the pain experienced by
Martha and Mary at the death of their brother.

Butterflies, eight in number, as symbols of the resurrection
not only of Christ but also in this instance also of Lazarus.

The thistle seeds reinforce the message of rebirth.

The style of writing was chosen to represent the nails.
